FAQ

RØDECaster App questions, answered.

What people ask before installing the app, and the things they ask right after.

Is the RØDECaster App free?

Yes. RØDE publishes it free for Windows and macOS, with no licence and no account. The copies on this site are RØDE’s own release builds, unmodified.

What is the RØDECaster App for?

It is the companion app for the RØDECaster Pro II, RØDECaster Duo, RØDECaster Video, Video S and Streamer X. It handles firmware updates, assigns channels to faders, configures outputs, display and network settings, loads sounds onto the SMART pads, transfers and exports recordings, and on the Video it adds the Scene Builder and live remote control.

Is the RØDECaster App the same as RØDE Central?

Not any more. Until May 2025 RØDE Central covered both the microphones and the RØDECaster consoles. Version 2.0.94 split the console side into the separate RØDECaster App. Today RØDE Central is for the wireless, on-camera and USB mics only, and the RØDECaster App is for the consoles. Full comparison.

Does the RØDECaster App work with the original RØDECaster Pro?

No. The 2018 RØDECaster Pro uses its own RØDECaster Pro Companion App, which is the only way to update that unit’s firmware. Both the Windows and Mac builds are on the download page.

Which version is current?

RØDECaster App 2.0.114, released 24 September 2026. It added support for the RØDECaster Video’s 4K UHD Capture mode and more keyboard control in the Scene Builder. The changelog has every release.

What are the system requirements?

Windows 10 (version 1803) or later, or macOS 11 or later. The Mac build runs natively on Apple Silicon and Intel.

Is there a mobile version of the RØDECaster App?

No. The RØDECaster App is desktop-only. RØDE Central Mobile exists for iOS and Android, but it covers the microphones, not the consoles. The Duo and Video do have MFi-certified USB ports for use as an audio interface with an iPhone or iPad.

Which USB port do I connect to?

USB 1 on the RØDECaster Pro II and Duo. USB 2 on the RØDECaster Video, with a SuperSpeed cable — or skip the cable and put the Video on the same Wi-Fi or Ethernet network as the computer. Either USB-C port on the Streamer X.

Can I control the console over Wi-Fi?

The RØDECaster Video, yes: on the same network the app’s Scene Builder mirrors the hardware live, including switching, overlays and chroma key. The Pro II and Duo use the network for firmware updates, streaming and RØDE CallMe; configuration from the app is over USB.

How do I update the firmware?

Two ways on the Pro II, Duo and Video. Over the network: connect the console to Wi-Fi or Ethernet and accept the prompt on its screen — RØDE’s recommended route. Over USB: uninstall any old app, install the current one, connect, select the console and follow the prompt. Firmware guide.

What is the latest firmware?

RØDECaster Pro II and Duo 1.7.6 (23 September 2026); RØDECaster Video 1.4.03.1549 (1 October 2026); original RØDECaster Pro 2.1.2.

Why doesn’t the app see my console?

Usually one of three things: it’s the wrong app for the device, the console is on a hub instead of a direct cable, or it’s on the wrong port. The troubleshooting page walks through all of them plus the Windows virtual-device fixes.

Can I get my recordings off the microSD card with the app?

Yes. Transfer Recordings puts the console into Transfer Mode, lists every recording, lets you play and trim it, and exports with presets for the main podcast platforms or your own format, sample rate, bit rate and loudness settings. Guide.

Does the app load sounds onto the SMART pads?

Yes. Drag an audio file onto a pad or pick it through the file dialog, export sounds back out, change playback modes and rename pads. Guide.

Do I need UNIFY or RØDE Connect as well?

Only for the Streamer X, which does its live mixing in UNIFY. The Pro II, Duo and Video mix on the console itself. RØDE Connect is a separate four-mic podcast mixer for RØDE USB microphones.

Is it safe to download from here?

The installers are the same zip files RØDE distributes, hosted on this site so the download starts immediately. They are not modified in any way. If you would rather fetch them from RØDE directly, the file names are identical.
