Which RØDE app do I need?

RØDE ships three companion apps and two mixers. Match your hardware to the right one before you install anything.

The short version

  • RØDECaster App — RØDECaster Pro II, Duo, Video, Video S and Streamer X. Windows and macOS. Download.
  • RØDE Central — the wireless, on-camera and USB microphones and the AI interfaces. Windows, macOS, iOS and Android. Details.
  • RØDECaster Pro Companion App — only the original 2018 RØDECaster Pro. Details.

Device by device

How it ended up this way

The Companion App came first, in 2019, built for the original RØDECaster Pro alone. RØDE Central followed as the app for the microphones, and when the RØDECaster Pro II launched in June 2022 it was added to Central (version 2.0.0). The Duo, Streamer X and Video all joined Central over the next two years.

On 8 May 2025, Central version 2.0.94 split the console side into the new RØDECaster App and gave both apps a redesigned interface. From then on Central is for the mics and the RØDECaster App is for the consoles, and the two don’t overlap. The original RØDECaster Pro was never part of either and still has its own app.

The mixers are separate again

UNIFY and RØDE Connect are not companion apps; they are software mixers that use RØDE USB mics and the Streamer X as inputs. UNIFY is streamer-oriented with virtual devices and sub-mixes; Connect is the free four-mic podcast mixer.

Rule of thumb

If it has faders and a touchscreen, it’s the RØDECaster App. If it’s a microphone, it’s RØDE Central. If it’s the 2018 RØDECaster Pro with the physical pads and no touchscreen, it’s the Companion App.

Compatibility lists come from RØDE’s app pages and its support article on the difference between the RØDECaster Pro Companion App and the RØDECaster App.
