SMART pads from the app.
Loading sounds from the computer, playback modes, banks, and what each console’s pads can do.
What the pads do
SMART pads trigger sounds, voice effects, MIDI commands and automated mixer actions. Bank switching multiplies them: the Pro II has eight pads and eight banks for 64 actions, the Duo six pads with banks, and the Streamer X four pads across 16 banks for 64.
Loading sounds from the computer
Open the SMART pads page in the RØDECaster App with the console connected. Drag an audio file from your desktop straight onto a pad, or click the pad and pick the file through the normal file dialog. The drop target was enlarged early on, and corrupted or unsupported files are reported with a notification rather than failing quietly; the console also clears unsupported files from pads automatically.
From the same page you export sounds back to the computer, change a pad’s playback mode, and rename it.
Beyond sounds
- Voice effects and mixer actions on any pad.
- MIDI commands — on the Streamer X these double as keyboard shortcuts for your streaming software.
- CENSOR on the Pro II and Duo gained an audio trim control in firmware 1.6.9.
- RØDE CallMe actions are available in the SMART pad backchannel configuration since app 2.0.97.
SMART pad transfer has accepted a wide range of audio formats since app version 2.0.3. If a file is refused, convert it to WAV or MP3 and try again; MP3 import for the RØDECaster Video was fixed in app 2.0.111.
Original RØDECaster Pro
The 2018 console loads its eight pads (eight banks, 64 sounds) through the Companion App, which has its own sound pad customisation section.
