Installing the RØDECaster App.
Windows and macOS, the right port on each console, and what a successful connection looks like.
Before you start
You need Windows 10 (version 1803) or later, or macOS 11 or later. The download is a zip with the installer inside; unzip it first. RØDE’s own advice for firmware updates is to uninstall any previous RØDECaster App before installing the current one, and that also applies to an old RØDE Central build from before May 2025 that still contained the RØDECaster side.
Windows
- Download
RODECaster_App_WIN.zipfrom the download page and extract it. - Uninstall any older RØDECaster App from Settings → Apps.
- Run the installer, then open the RØDECaster App.
- Connect the console (ports below) and select it in the left-hand list.
The Pro II and Duo expose extra virtual audio devices on Windows for multitrack and expanded USB routing. If they are missing after installing, the troubleshooting page has the five-step fix, starting with the Settings → Outputs → Multitrack options.
macOS
- Download
RODECaster_App_MACOS.zipand extract it. - Drag any older RØDECaster App to the Trash.
- Run the installer and open the app. It runs natively on Apple Silicon and Intel.
- Connect the console and select it in the left-hand list.
The app has carried fixes for each macOS release — Sonoma firmware updates in 2.0.43, Sequoia USB changes in 2.0.49, macOS 26 in 2.0.103 — so staying on the current version matters more on the Mac than anywhere else.
Which port, which cable
| Console | Connect to the app via |
|---|---|
| RØDECaster Pro II | USB 1, with the supplied USB-C to USB-C cable. Computers with only USB-A need a USB-C to USB-A cable such as the RØDE SC18. |
| RØDECaster Duo | USB 1, same cable rules. The MFi-certified port is for iPhones and iPads, not the desktop app. |
| RØDECaster Video | USB 2 with a SuperSpeed USB cable (the one in the box), or the same Wi-Fi/Ethernet network as the computer. USB 1 is the video and audio interface; USB 3 is the recording drive. |
| Streamer X | Either USB-C port to the computer. |
What you should see
The console appears as a device in the left-hand column. Click it and the app shows the current firmware version and available storage, with the configuration pages beside it: Audio Setup, Device Configuration, SMART pads and Transfer Recordings on the Pro II and Duo; the Scene Builder and Advanced Configuration on the Video. If new firmware exists you are prompted straight away — the firmware guide covers both update routes.
Connect the console directly to the computer, not through a hub or dock; check you are on the right port; and make sure it is the RØDECaster App and not RØDE Central (the original 2018 RØDECaster Pro needs the Companion App instead). More on the troubleshooting page.
